Boulevard - The Royal Route

COMPETITION SHORT DOCUMENTARY

Boulevard - The Royal Route / Shahrah - The Royal Route

Synopsis

Standing silent along the ancient trade route the Kos Minars & Sarais are more than stone sentinels. They are the last relics of a forgotten era, mile markers that once measured the heartbeat of an empire. Each dilapidated tower whispers tales of emperors, caravans, traders, pilgrims and armies that traversed the royal highway that now lies buried under the sands of time. Yet, remains of these majestic minars & sarais today stand in the ruins of neglect and apathy, swallowed by highways, haphazard urbanisation, and indifference. Over eight years of tireless research and fieldwork on the route from Amer to Ajmer director Rahul Sood chased their shadows across dusty villages and forgotten archives. He sat with historians decoding rare government ledgers, pored over archeological records, historical archives, and listened as elders shared living lores passed down through generations. This documentary pieces together tales and details that the that the official history never captured.
